with the caption of Masque Representant un Personnage a Couronne, (Nepal. Terai H. 34 cm Collection Edgar Siksik, Paris) this mask later became part of the collection of the Musee de la Castre of Cannes (FRA).

The Mask was in 1997 published in the exhibition’s catalog devoted to 30 years of the Museum’s acquisitions – titled : Voyages Immobiles Trente Ans d’Acquisitions D’Art Primitif Du Musee De La Castre

and exhibited in the linked exhibition in Cannes (La Malmaison – 20 Decembre 1997 – 4 Mai 1998 )

After 2010 the mask is housed in a new and large showcase together with the other masks of the region – in the renovated Himalayan hall of the Museum.

Darjeeling – Group of Lamas and some insight on the Deer Mask’s Dance

Note the presence of two Cerf Thérianthrope Tibetan’s masks

The masks could be linked to the Deer dance, a dance which consists of 4 acts: in the first, the envy of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas occurs – in the second offerings are made to these deities – in the third violent movements are practiced to overcome obstacles – in the fourth comes the request of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas to return to their own homes.
