Images taken of religious ceremonies & shamanism while the author was carrying out ethnographic research among the Purbia Raji

in

1969-70 and in parts of 1975-76. 

At that time the Raji still lived in the Babai River Valley before being moved out by the government to near 

the Indian border in order to make room for Bardia National Park. 

The Raji are a Tibeto-Burman speaking tribe that had taken up agriculture in the forested foothills.
