THE WAY OF THE ROAD
BEN CAMBELL
FILM
2009
http://www.filmsouthasia.org/film/the-way-of-the-road/
A road through Nepal’s Rasuwa District will reconnect an ancient Himalayan trade route with global traffic. The film looks through Tamang villagers’ eyes at the cultural and economic flows through this border land, including a dramatic re-enactment of Tibetan and Nepali armies in conflict. But what do the villagers whose lives it is intended to benefit think about where the road will run?
Ben Campbell is an anthropologist of Nepal at Durham University, UK and has previously directed the film Shamanic Pilgrimage to Gosaikund.
