TRIBAL MUSEUM || SILVASSA || DADRA & NAGAR HAVELI

Silvassa has been under different dominations in the history, yet it has maintained the culture and traditions of tribals in its heart.

Few prominent tribes scattered across the territory are, Warli (or Varli), Dhodia and Kokna.

The government has established a small museum, located in the heart of town beside the main tourist office, holding the heritage of different tribal culture of the union territory.

This is not just a museum, but an anthropological centre of how different tribes have originated in the region, how they have lived their lives and adapted to the changes of development.

The walls of the museum are decorated with bows, daggers, spears etc. used by different tribes for hunting and fighting.

The museum displays photos and clay models of the tribal lifestyle, their wedding dresses, handmade ornaments, daily household utensils and photos of any ceremony celebrated like the Kanseri Festival or the Kokna Tribal Dance.

Silvassa Tribal Museum Various musical instruments like Tarpha or Pavri, Dhol and Madal are on display.

There are various hand made masks of Pandavas, Ravan, puppets, dolls and many other Gods and Goddess.

Fishing was the primary activity of the tribals and thus various fishing equipments are also on display.

The museum also features Warli Art works in different forms and 3D tribal houses.
